I have a Lopi Endeavor and this is how the two rods work on my stove. The one that is near the top on the right side (right as you look at the front of the stove) is the airwash/secondary conbustion air rod. This rod is used either fully in or fully out. When ever you open the door, this rod should be fully out.

not liberty.....lopi endeavor.....mine is in the basement.....always 90 degrees down there.....got an exaust fan in the cloths chute to bring up the warm air to main floor.....then unhooked venting from furnace to upstairs bedroom and put an inline fan to heat that room.....furnace wont kick on unless its below 20 outside.....i just figured the outdoor ones would be less hassle.

You will have levers to allow you to do that, so make use of them and fully open the valves when making the fire.
