Oct 08, 2008 · If the workloads that are being hosted on VMware ESX are such that having more aggregate bandwidth would be beneficial, then using link aggregation is really the only way to do it. I suppose it would be possible to use NIC teaming inside the guest OS, assuming the VM was configured to use e1000 NICs, but I’ve never tested this configuration.

The security, traffic shaping, teaming, and failover settings function in the same manner for a standard vSwitch and a vSphere Distributed Switch (VDS or dvSwitch), with a couple of exceptions regarding traffic shaping and load balancing methods. Unlike a standard vSwitch, a VDS can handle both ingress and egress traffic shaping.
Are you using LACP /w vSphere VDS? If so, the Nutanix best practice is actually to use LBT (load-based teaming) of the physical adapters. Josh Odgers has a good write up here, I also asked the LACP question previously. The major benefit of not using LACP is that it simplifies your datacenter switching config to use trunk ports and LBT.
