There are two key dates for the Jefferson Nickel. The 1939-D had only 3.5 million minted making it a rarity for the Jefferson Nickel, especially in higher grades. In contrast was the 1950-D which was only released in Mint Sets. Though less 1950-D nickels were minted at 2.6 million, the 1939-D is worth more in Uncirculated condition.

U.S. Coins Commemorative Jefferson Nickels. In commemoration of the Louisiana Purchase, and Lewis and Clark's expedition, the President enacted a public law to modify the Jefferson nickel in 2004 and 2005, to reflect images evocative of their expedition into the Louisiana Territory.

A 2004 nickel is worth 5 cents. A gold-plated '04 nickel is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. There is no standard market value for modified coins like that.
